Merricks: Solar and Battery

Our team recently completed a project in Merricks for a solar and battery installation.  The goal is to help the homeowners become more energy independent and rely less on the grid. As power blackouts are common in this area, adding a battery to the solar system ensures the home can remain powered for many hours.

Overview

Our clients on the Mornington Peninsula sought a sustainable energy solution with the ability for grid protection. They wanted to ensure energy independence while maintaining the aesthetic appeal of their beautiful property in Merricks.

Key Challenges

Initially, the clients were hesitant to place solar panels on the front-facing roof due to aesthetic concerns. However, after site analysis, it was clear that this position provided optimal sunlight exposure throughout the day. After thorough discussions, the clients agreed to move forward with the front roof placement.

To meet their energy needs and maintain aesthetics, we installed:

  • 42 SunPower P7 Solar Panels: These all-black panels look sleek and modern, and come with industry-leading 30-year warranty.
  • Clenergy Mounting System: Australian engineered and made in black anodised aluminium to colour match the panels.
  • Tesla Powerwall 3: Progressing from the previous battery-only Powerwall 2 model, this new PW3 eliminates the need for a third-party inverter as an all in one solution.

The Results

This system not only gave the clients peace of mind with backup power but also helped them reduce their energy costs and live more sustainably.

The Tesla Powerwall 3 provides whole-home backup during outages to one-phase, which was one of our clients top priorities, keeping their essential circuits running during a power outage – which we know is commonon this part of the Peninsula.
With the Tesla app, they can monitor and customise how their system works to suit their energy needs. The system also offers energy independence by harnessing solar energy to reduce grid reliance and lower electricity bills.

SunPower P7s are our preferred panel on the market at the moment. The combination of TOPCon solar cells and a shingled-cell design results in reliable, powerful, and efficient solar panels with effective shade management and a longer lifecycle. SunPower P7 panels come with a 30-year warranty covering Power, Product and Service.

During the solar and battery installation, the team took extra steps to tidy up the indoor switchboard, which had multiple circuits running inefficiently. By simplifying the connection from the battery to the gateway and switchboard, the system was made more efficient and streamlined. Careful attention was also paid to the alignment of the solar panels, ensuring a symmetrical and professional finish.

The clients were thrilled with the final outcome. Despite initial concerns, they were pleasantly surprised by the clean, symmetrical, and aesthetically pleasing look of the all-black panel setup on their roof.
